Update - October 2017

After last months report I am now looking at the positive side of what has been done and I can report that large areas of the upper slopes are indeed stable so the matting has helped because vegetation has started to grow back thus binding up the soil - have a look and see...

BIG LANDSLIDE.

A large chunk of the cliff has collapsed taking the last remnants of the old original beach path.
Pictures to follow...

August Update. "IF"

Nothing to report work wise and unfortunately more of the netting has tumbled onto the beach.
The top cliff section has become more stable so the netting has worked there and a lot of the planted Willow whips have taken however with the lower cliff section still being eroded by the sea it is only a matter of time before a major slip occurs now.
IF the work had managed to be completed on the lower cliff perhaps it would have been more stable. IF the four groynes we had could have been renewed they would have built up the beach by stopping the longshore drift so the lower cliff would have seen less erosion as the sea waves would then not be lapping the lower cliff.
Lots of "IF'S...🆘🆘🆘

Up at the village hall...

Hi all just an update for you if you were at work and couldn't go...
Not a lot going on yet - it was more of a one to one discussion to find out about the proposed coastal walking path around our island. It's an interesting project however a lot of consultations have got to take place with everybody who could be affected and they are a long way off from working out the proposed route as yet so don't worry -  2020 is a few years off yet...

IMPORTANT LETTER YOU ALL SHOULD HAVE HAD BY NOW...

You should have received a personally addressed 5 page letter sent by post to you from Natural England...
The letter is regarding the improvements to public access along the coast of the Isle of Sheppey and the forthcoming consultation with owners and occupiers of affected land...
I have reproduced the official map from the letter and as can be seen by the orange shaded area we are ALL  affected.
Below is the only page I can reproduce here - the full letter is just too involved to be reproduced as a picture and I can't link a PDF file to the Blog site.
If you have not the had your letter please contact :
Jenny Bowen
Senior Adviser England Cost Path Team - South East.

Tel 0208 026 8045
PLEASE  TELL  OTHERS - I myself did not get the letter as I am not the landowner however, thanks to one of you who told me I was able to put something onto the Blog site just in case others don't know.
Please never assume everyone knows whats going on or whats on the Blog as some don't even look so please tell others in conversation - that way we stay strong as a group.
Lastly there are four NATURAL ENGLAND area meetings to come.
Ours is Thursday 23rd February 2017
Eastchurch Village Hall.
Warden Rd. Eastchurch. ME12 4EJ

Time 16:30 to 18:30 hrs.

See you there.

Regards Peter. (Seascape).

January 14th - Report.

Hi all. Just an update after the horrific weather with high winds we had together with the high tide surge which punched down the North Sea coast... I have to report further damage to the lower cliff area which has been in direct contact with the crashing high tide waves. The upper area of the cliff that was protected with the special netting has survived the onslaught and is still intact - this is dispite the 49mm of gale driven rain we had on the 12th... This is a sad time as a lot of the work which was done on the lower cliff area during the summer has been undone - all for the want of a few groynes which would have built up the beach so the waves did not crash against the cliff...
As the four old groynes we had on this beach were maliciously destroyed - to make garden furniture - the situation on the erosion of the lower cliff has been accelerated. New groynes would be a saving grace to the lower cliff area - as long as the garden furniture merchant kept his hands off....
